Katie Holmes is shedding her sweet Joey Potter image from âDawsonâs Creekâ as she stars in âPieces of April,â a film from Peter Hedges (âWhoâs Eating Gilbert Grape?â) Holmes stars as a misunderstood girl named April, who during the course of one Thanksgiving Day, tries to make it the perfect holiday for her dying mother (Patricia Clarkson).
Holmes talked about her role recently at a press day in New York City.
How did this script come to you? Were you involved in the development process?
No, this script â [director] Peter [Hedges] wrote as a tribute to his mom. The whole story was to honor her because she passed away from cancer. He tells people all the time so I donât feel awkward sharing that. Anyway, I got the script sent to me and I heard it was very good and I read it and loved it. I think I read it two or three times. There was so much to the realness and simplicity of the script. I think that Peter does a great job in not condescending to the audience and not telling the audience too much on how to feel. Itâs kind of a slice of life and you take from it what you want, and you can put your own memories into it. I begged to get a meeting with him and we met, and I think I convinced him to let me have the part and a year later, we made the movie.

I don't think she's happy ..that little girl IS TOM's child and through him belongs to the scientologist's....Katie was a brood mare and I believe she was chosen for some particular qualities that only the cult leaders can answer..... I can;t believe that she isn't allowed to see her parents......Katie is in a prison ......I do feel sorry for her & the baby...... I also suspect that Tom is a freak of the highest proportions ......definately twisted and corrupted into the cyorg he has become......I don't think Tom is human anymore and I say that with all seriousness...............
He and the scientologists have kept the child under wraps for a reason.........Hummm ?
I wonder if his hairdresser/barber has checked for the magic numbers .you know 666
